Performance - ACP application
« on: July 17, 2012, 03:45:35 AM »
We recently ported the CRD application to JDK 6 and deployed using AjaxSwing. While the functionality, look-n-feel is OK, form loading takes time. After each tree node click, we need to wait an average of 5 seconds to get the form displayed. These are empty forms and in the native app the display is instant. The ACP app is currently available in LEONO for testing.

Does it happen only for tree node clicks? Try switching tabs in JTabbedPane or changing table selection and see if it also takes 5 seconds. You should try to restart the server few times and see if performance is same. There is a known issue when all actions (clicks, selections etc) are taking about 5 seconds more then normally should, issue disappears after server restart and only appears in 1 out of 100 server starts, we are already investigating this issues.

OK. We are getting this issue consistently - web server restarts did not help. Its slow in all cases, tree click, tab click, direct from menu.

We tested performance on leono server from 10.2.93.139 machine, and while we notice there are some performance issue, they are not same across all actions, navigating in top menu is almost twice as fast, about dialog takes only about 2 seconds to appear.

Switching tab or tree selection is slow, but also both of these actions are changing left tree or right panel - almost all content and most importantly - ping to leono server is 272ms, it's a big latency and would cause performance degradation on AjaxSwing. Based on our investigation there is no issue on AjaxSwing side. As a workaround you can try enabling gzip in tomcat for all HTML and images, this would increase CPU usage, but would largely decrease amount of HTML transferred which can improve performance in your case.

This is now becoming a major issue and I could see a pattern here:
The ACP application is most affected and it has tabbed panes. Others do not have that. We now have another instance having the same problem in 'claims':

Please look into this on priority.
